The public sector is continuing to recruit at a stable rate, with many employers expecting their workforce to expand, according to a released survey.

The findings from the employment outlook survey by recruitment agency Manpower, shows that the balance of public sector employers looking to take on more staff in August and September has stayed at +15% for the second successive quarter.

Research among 2,100 UK employers found that recruitment is taking place all around the country. The report said this was partly due to the movement of civil service jobs away from London, the NHS need for doctors and nurses, and also the continuing demand for staff in areas such as local government.

The results show recruitment is extremely stable in the public sector and higher than in many parts of the private sector, including the service sector and manufacturing, as well as being above the national average of 12%

Dave Prentis welcomed the report's finding but said the staff had to be well treated.

"This has to be good newa for the economy and even better news for our public services" he said.

"The challenge for the government is to make sure the new staff are treated fairly, trained well and given the respect they deserve".
