To all members in the Local Government Pension Scheme |

On 15th march, the result of UNISON's ballot for industrial action against the Government's attack on our pensions was declared. The result was an overwhelming 80% in favour of taking action. As a result, Hertfordshire County Branch of UNISOn is asking its members not to report for work on Tuesday 28th March 2006.
This action is a result of our Labour led goverment planning to tear up a long cherished term and condition of our employment. Many of you will have paid thousands of pounds into a pension scheme (which is defered salary!) and that gave you the right to retire at 60 and plan for a life after work. The Government wants to remove this right and make you work on until 65 years old or even longer! This was never part of the agreement. This is our chance to effectively defend and retain our employment and pension rights. If the Government are allowed to win this dispute, we may never recover in terms of working conditions.
Please support one of our picket lines on the day or attend a rally of support at County Hall, Hertford. The County Councillors will also be meeting next Tuesday, so lets turn up together and give them a clear message to take back to their political colleagues in Westminster. |
