Local Government Pension Scheme Talks Print E-mail
Further talks were held on the LGPS in the Tripartite Committee yesterday afternoon, chaired by John Prescott.  Although some progress had been made prior to the meeting on a joint package of proposals for a way forward, the LGA and EO have now pulled back from them.  The key issues are still the 85 year rule and protection. We will continue to talk with the LGA and EO over the next week, with a view to reaching agreement on a joint way forward which John Prescott can sign up to.  He intends to make a statement to Parliament at the start of December to coincide with the local government settlement announcement on any measures he believes should be taken on, in his capacity as LGPS Regulator.  We will be seeking to find a solution before then.  In the meantime, we need pressure from sympathetic councillors and MP's on the LGA.
