Unions Reject Outright Employers Proposed Changes To Local Government Pension Scheme

Trade unions representing two million workers in Local Government pension Scheme today received the employer proposals for the short-term changes to their pensions. The employer proposals were worse than those that we had threatened strike action over in March and require employees to pay extra contributions. The trade unions were unanimous in their view that if these proposals were expected by government then strike action would be on the cards. Union officials are seeking urgent meetings with ministers next week at the Labour Party Conference.
