One question Branch Officers are often asked when there is any suggestion of a strike or other industrial action is "what will happen to my pension?"  It is also an issue that management raise, in an attempt to stop people planning to take action.  Here are some questions and answers intended to clarify the position.

"Lets go out and get it, folks!"  That was the rallying call from UNISON's higher education conference this morning, as the clock ticked down to Tuesday's industrial action, the largest since the General Strike.

Why are we going on strike?


Detrimental regulations come into force this year, which will affect the Local Government Pensions Scheme.  This is an attack on our terms and conditions.  Due to the removal of the 85-year rule, you will have to work until 65 or even longer.  80% of members balloted are saying NO to the changes.

On 15th march, the result of UNISON's ballot for industrial action against the Government's attack on our pensions was declared.  The result was an overwhelming 80% in favour of taking action.  As a result, Hertfordshire County Branch of UNISOn is asking its members not to report for work on Tuesday 28th March 2006.

Members Vote for Pensions Action Print E-mail

UNISON members have voted YES to strike action over pension by an overwhelming majority.  Some 80% supported strike action to demand fair treatment over pension rights in the Local Government Pension Scheme.
